Daisy Needs A Home

This is sweet Daisy. We believe she is a boxer mix. She definitely has a boxer personality and likes to give hugs. She is obnoxiously affectionate.  She is approximately 5 years old. Spayed. UTD. She is heartworm positive.

This girl has been through so much. Dumped by owners. Surrendered to a kill shelter and left to die. She was out of time when one of our rescue partners pulled her but wasn’t able to find a rescue for her right away. Our rescue partner has had her for several months and she has done great with most dogs big and small.  However, she can be selective at times due to being attacked by another dog.

Her major issue is regular inappropriate urination.  Our rescue partner has done an abdominal Ultrasound to rule out a mass (Looked normal), bloodwork to rule out Cushings or Addisons (again normal). At this point the vet believes it is either Diabetes Insipidus or psychosomatic. She is currently on meds for diabetics insipidus (there is no test. With er the meds work and that the diagnosis or they don’t).

She is the sweetest dog and deserves to be able to run and play outside and nap on the couch. Unfortunately she isn’t able to do that in the foster home with the other dog who attacked her. Instead, she has to be kept separated for her own safety.  She has so much love to give.

Daisy is currently located in Eastern North Carolina.  A meet and greet can be arranged for a serious adopter who understands what is involved and would be willing to work with her to overcome her medical issues.

Good with small/young children? Yes. Preschoolers and up should do fine.  She may be overly affectionate for toddlers.
Reaction to new people (select one of the following):  Friendly - (Very!)

Does the dog know any commands? If so, which? Attends to her name. Just learning 'Sit'.
Can jump fences? No - Shows no interest in fences at her foster home, except to run over to see neighbor children.
Does the dog have any of the following behaviors/personality traits that you know of (select ALL that apply): X=Yes
X  Walks well on leash (Walks eagerly and may pull some)

No • Drools excessively
X • Has allergies (provide details) In her previous home she was fed mainly chicken breast, and that limited diet may have contributed to mild allergic skin condition...some balding along edges of ears and irritation and redness inside her ears.  She is improving after about 10 days on a more appropriate diet, and will have a vet check of her skin this week.  Because of the overexposure to chicken, it might be best for her to have a diet without that protein.
X • Special diet required (provide details) (See above, waiting vet recommendation....)

22. Please include any other information about the dog you feel is important for a potential adopter to know to ensure a successful forever placement
Bella has had two former families....a family with a school-aged boy, and a single male owner who lost his home and was unable to keep Bella.  Especially in the second home she has been alone for ten or more hours a day.  She really enjoys time with family and other pets, and shows affection freely.  She will appreciate routine and daily activity and attention.  She would benefit from basic obedience training with her owner/family.
*When meeting new dogs, Bella may need help to read their cues, to know when to back away.  Some dogs may not appreciate her being 'in their face!'

Bella is currently being fostered in North Carolina and can be transported to New Jersey upon request.

Good with small/young children?  She is very active.  Older children only

Can jump fences?  She has not been given the opportunity to try, but it is likely she might try.  Very active.

Dog has the following behaviors/personality traits: possible escape artist (hound) - do not allow off leash, playful, affectionate, goofy

Dog has the following compatibility qualities: older / considerate children only.  Stella takes treats gently and is very food motivated

Weight - 50 Pounds

House-trained? Yes

Crate-trained? Yes

Good with cats? He is afraid of them, has never tried to harm one

Good with small/young children?  He likes children, but he does get very excited around them.  Older and respectful children preferred.

Activity level: Highly Active

Likes to vocalize: Some

Can jump fences?  Has not tried with a 6 foot fence at foster's, but please don't take any chances

Dog has the following behaviors/personality traits: Walks well on leash, does well in car, obedient, playful, affectionate, eager to please, even tempered, goofy

Dog has the following compatibility qualities: not appropriate for an apartment and may be too much for a first time dog owner

Grover is good with other dogs but needs a slow introduction because his immediate reaction is to play.  He puts is paws over the back of the other dogs and that can sometimes create issues with the other dog.  He plays rough and needs some training.  It's not in a fighting way, he just gets really excited.  He can be loud in his crate when he wants out, but he is currently crated near a dozen other dogs.  He is active and needs exercise but settles nicely.  He is great off leash and has great recall.  Smart boy who wants to please!  Will you be the person to give Grover the family he has never known?
